It has been an overwhelming Autumn. Dad will not be going back to Britthaven.  He has moved into a new more severe stage of his illness.  He has been hospitalized in a state-owned Geropsych Unit until things stabilize.  He will eventually be discharged to a long term care placement more suited to his needs.  I shall always remember

• Reid White, who saw to it that Dad was given finger food at a table while in UNC Hospital.  Dad cannot handle utensils, and he is messy when he eats.  Those were some of Dad's last days of feeding himself.
• Lida in the Geropsych ward at UNC, who gave Dad (and me) no-nonsense nursing care of the best kind.
• And Michelle McEntire, a social worker who helped me understand that Dad is okay in his alternative time and space, that I can give up trying to take responsibility for his happiness, and that I just enjoy being with him when I visit.
